Native Lands

This is a gift for Edinburgh.

Jock Zonfrillo, a luminary of Aboriginal Australian Cuisine, an ambassador to the cuisines and cultures of indigenous peoples worldwide, and a cult hero of modern fine dining will be cooking a tasting menu here at Edinburgh Food Studio for two days only.

Lets keep things simple in saying, we are super excited to allow diners this rare opportunity to eat Jock's food.

“One of the great undiscovered talents on the planet,”

Marco Pierre White

Do we need to say more? Just book it.

Or if we do need to say more, read on.

Jock's restaurant Orana is known globally, and his Discovery Channel TV show, Nomad Chef has taken him all over the world. His relentless work all over the world has the overarching purpose of feeding his not-for-profit 'The Orana Foundation', which is inspired by the first Australians and their unique relationship with the land and sophisticated knowledge of traditional food culture.

Maverick Zonfrillo was born to an Italian-Scottish family in Scotland, with his youth being influenced by both of these cultures. We are really looking forward to hosting Jock in Scotland, because while his travels have taken him far and wide to explore the indigenous cultures and ingredients of others, these dinners will be an oportunity for him to explore his own native terrain.

Jocks star studded career has brought him through tradition of Scotland's country houses, to the military precision of Restaurant Marco Pierre White, decadance of Chapter One, and to the cutting edge of artist Damien Hurst's restaurant The Pharmacy - which so caught the imagination of the British Public.

Orana, meaning 'Welcome' in some Aboriginal Cultures is the name of the intimate space which plays home to the findings of Jock's relentless and respectful creative and scientific research into the indigenous land, produce, people and history of Australia - his adopted homeland. Jock respectfully acknowledges the cultural and geographic origins of the products that reach his lucky diners, and in the setting up of his Orana Foundation, Jock is demonstrating his sincere belief in the Aboriginal philosophy to heal and be healed by the land, and to always give back more than you take.

Ultimately, Jocks raison d'être is to preserve and evolve Australian food culture, to advocate progressive food policies for Australian ingredients, assist indigenous enterprise and create and innovate through research and development. The Orana Foundation represents great hope in an often dark future for the Austalian continent's first peoples.

We are truly honoured to host this homecoming menu in Zonfrillo's Native Homeland, this is about the best exploration of biocultural diversity we can imagine. What a start to the Edinburgh Festival!

Dinner will be served at 8pm and guests are welcome to join us fro 7:30pm onwards, the cost is £42 per person, and there will be an optional drinks pairing for £35. To avoid disappointment, please book in advance and let us know of your dietary requirements.
