Orange is the new white

If you thought wine only came in 3 colours you're in for a treat. In the first of a series of wine tastings at the Food Studio we introduce a new colour into the wine palette/palate... Orange. Although this may seem like a new phenomenon, orange wines are the, mostly untold, prequel to wine as we know it. Our tasting tells their story from near extinction to a newfound popularity.

The heritage of orange winemaking starts thousands of years ago in Georgia, before we had developed wines that taste light, crisp and fresh. Unlike today's white wines that only use the juice of the grape, these wines do all of the things avoided in modern winemaking and use the whole grape to make 'white' wines that have more depth, texture and colour. Although this can be quite shocking on first taste it brings a new level of flavour to wine and wine and food matching.

Nikki Welch, creator of the WineTubeMap and author of the Pocket Guide to Wine, will be taking us on this journey exploring these delicious wines, and testing our senses to better understand them.

Prepare to add a new colour to your wine palate.
